The Horton Crayfish Pool – 3 Acre Lake

This small, secluded lake on the complex has finally come back into form, producing some fantastic looking fish. The venue has seen a stocking of some 65 carp which include the famous Sutton strain. The Sutton’s were hand picked and are now being caught between 20-30lbs.

The Fishers Pond carp that were added to the original stock were a healthy mix of beautifully scaled carp ranging from 15-22lbs. These are now coming out to around 30lb with the biggest going 42lb. The venue still holds some of the originals and it is worthwhile spending a season or two chasing them.

The venue is very secluded and the top tip for this lake would be to approach the margins cautiously and keep your eyes peeled, as many fish are caught from within feet of the edge. A possible distraction to the carp fishing comes in the form of some specimen eels that have been caught over the last few years on the venue.

To date, the largest specimen was slightly over 8lb, a fantastic fish and one that is available to any angler wanting a slightly different species to the usual carp. 2015 saw another fifteen fish get on the 30Ibs+ list with a top weight of 42Ibs 2oz, taking the tally to well over fifteen 30lbs+ carp to be had in this prestigious but tricky water.
